What a wonderful party!
The day was filled with fun activities for the children. We had hula-hooping, sock-hopping, tattooing and balloon-making going on in the Childrens' Room.
In the main section of the library, we were giving away free commemorative tote bags to our cardholders.
The Nyack High School Chorus began the festivities with a pitch-perfect performance. Our Library Director, Amelia Kalin, welcomed everyone to our party and spoke about how the library has evolved. Shirley Thormann, Board Trustee, introduced Alex Gromack, Clarkstown Supervisor, who congratulated the library and offered an official proclamation. Other officials who attended were Councilwoman Shirley Lasker, Councilman George Hoehmann, and Town Clerk David Carlucci.
Our special guests Tom Chapin and Michael Mark entertained the audience with some of our favorite songs, such as, The Library Song, Alphabet Soup and Happy Birthday.
We can't forget the VCL Kids who wrote and performed Valley Cottage Library Song.
Elaine Philhower accompanied them on piano.
Community Service Fair participants included:
Congers/Valley Cottage Volunteer Ambulance Corps
Historical Society of the Nyacks
Literacy Volunteers of Rockland County
Nyack School District
Riverspace - Arts in Nyack
Rockland County Girl Scout Council
Valley Cottage Civic Association
Valley Cottage Fire Department
And, of course, we had cake!
